Oh what I could write!

So I have been neglecting my blog and for good reason. I have just been super ridiculously busy with everything. Recently I blogged about going to Ottawa for basketball. Well it was a very successful trip. I can now call myself a NATIONAL CHAMPION. I also have a few new favourite songs because of the weekend. Rude boy by Rihanna. Usually I'm not a huge fan of Rihanna but Rude boy has some background to it that makes it special to me. Also I enjoy All I do is Win by DJ Kahled. Kinda makes sense to me right now hehe.

Link to both songs.

Rihanna - Rude Boy

Dj. K - All I Do is WIN

The aftermath of this national championship has been crazy. From pep rallies to suppers and free beer at the bars in town I haven't gotten much sleep either.

School is the other reason I haven't been blogging regularly. I have been swamped with essays and e-portfolios and quizzes and it's really weird, this is my last year of education and it is definitely harder then last semester. Anyways I just thought I would sneak in a late night blog.

Anyways I thought I better get in a blog just in case there is actually someone out there (other then my man Jay) who might actually be reading this...

Tomorrow

Well tomorrow is the big day! I head off to Ottawa. Kind of a little bit nervous, but I am sure as soon as I get on the court and moving around in Ottawa things will be better. I have already been to nationals in the ACAC in Montreal so I have alittle bit of experience with it.

So over this past weekend I was part of history! On Saturday night the U of S Huskies Basketball team won Canada West conference championships over U of C Dinos. This marks the first time that Huskie mens basketball has ever won Canada West. We now head to Ottawa March 21 for the national championships.

E-Porfolio

Part 1 - 10 % Planning

Post to your blog responses to the following guiding questions:

Why have you chosen to complete an e-portfolio?
So basically I want to do a e-portfpolio for a number of reasons. First someday I might actually apply for a job in education, so this e-portfolio might actually come in handy. I hate doing useless assignments for school that involve say writing an essay about the history of World War II. Where-as this assignment is actually going to be useful. Another reason which I probably shouldn't say, but since Jay is a firm believer in collegiality. I have to also make a e-portfolio for another one of my classes so I figure I can spend more time on the e-portfolio and make it twice as good.

What professional uses does an e-portfolio have for you?
Im not really sure about all the professional advantages of an e-portfolio but I know it may become important for an interview later on in life. Also It is a good way to show that you are technologically savvy and can create a website. Right now for me it means handing in an assignment worth 25%.

What content do you plan to include?
I have looked at a few other e-portfolios and plan to model mine after a few of them. I want to take an indepth look at myself my philosophies and my fututre in education and project it as safetly as possible on the web.

What graphic design considerations have you taken into account for the look of your e-portfolio?
I think you mean like dreamwork or flash? I have some moderate experience using both dreamworks and flash as have created a few website before and used to be a hardcore gamer. Which required me to create my own avatars and signatures from flash. So I plan on creating some of my own or maybe borrowing some from the internet.

(Include a drawing, sketch or layout to show what you pages may look like.)

I will provide a sketch later on when I have more of an idea of what the layout is going to look like.

What concerns do you have about the process? How do you plan to address these concerns?
Some concern I have are problems with dreamweaver and not being able to organize thing how I want them. I think I will probably want it to be a lot nicer then what I will be able to create, maybe try to incorporate some php stuff into it, but I will have to hit up my brother hard for some help with that. I plan on working hard and using site such as lynda.com to help me further my dreamweaver knowledge.

Write more on this later.

Proposal

Okay I thought I would get my Proposal out of the way So Im posting it today! Not sure exactly how to upload a file and I'm to lazy at the moment to figure it out so I'm just going to copy and paste it in my blog.

This is a proposal for my Essay.

Facebook for Teachers (Proposal): Legal, Ethical and Privacy issues surrounding teachers and Facebook.

Facebook is a primary source of trouble within high schools today. Instead of being used for means of keeping in touch with family and friends, it has turned into an online version of bullying, gossiping, and scandals. For teachers, it means a number of things: not only does it affect their at school activities, but also their personal lives. There are very few limitations on Facebook. People post anything from family vacation photos to nearly nude pictures of themselves (and only because complete nudes are banned from the website).
While entering into a career in education, teachers have to be aware that almost anyone, including students, will be able to view their Facebook pages. This means that discretion must be taken while creating one's page; no longer is a teacher able to put pictures from their latest “Friday night” festivities.
What I want to look at are the legal implications Facebook has on teachers and how it applies to them; whether or not teachers have, can, or will be fired from teaching because of their Facebook pages. I will be discussing the privacy that every teacher should be permitted , both before and after Facebook was created, and the boundaries that have now been crossed through the creation of popular social networking sites including Facebook.
I also want to discuss the past ten years in Canada, and specifically in Saskatchewan, where teachers have been directly affected by their lack of consideration in regards to creating personal pages on the internet. My plan is to focus on one or two of these cases and to point out the legal rights of the teachers/students and whether the punishments were just.
There are many ways that teachers can still have a Facebook page in a respectable manner. Steps need to be taken to make a student-friendly account which will not lead to any legal action. I will outline some of the steps to be taken to ensure that the page is acceptable to both students and staff.
Teachers must realize that their jobs do not go from 9:00 until 3:30; being a teacher is a 24 hour job. More specifically, in small towns, the actions taken by teachers are watched by everyone in the community. Regardless of what the teacher is doing, word will get back to the students about these events. In a larger community, teachers can take part in “non-school” activities more unnoticed, however, this is where Facebook becomes a big part in portraying their private lives. They have to aware that students, parents, and staff are able to access their accounts and what they have on their pages reflects who they are as an individual and a professional.
Also I want to discuss the future of social networks on the internet and the implications that they will have on teachers and the school. Will teachers continue to be punished for what they post on their Facebook accounts? Who should be allowed to access teachers' pages? Why should teachers be forbidden to express the fun they had on a weekend? There is a fine line that must be walked in order for teachers to have a successful Facebook account which is free from legal implications and privacy issues while still keeping the profile true to who they are.

Blooms Taxonomy

So I just heard we are supposed to post our blooms tax, or let Jay know whose group I am apart of. I believe Marky Mark posted the blooms tax.

Have a great day!

Weekly Wednesday

So I started a nice long blog, but in the process my Internet explorer ran into some trouble and I lost it all. So now im frustrated and I'm just going to give the short version. I decided to post all of homework for Jay's class on Wednesday and call them weekly Wednesday posts. So this week we were required to look at wikipedia and create or add some information. So I chose to create my own page under Chapin Sleightholm. I had some trouble with it and i think it will be deleted very shortly, So I just took a screen shot of it and saved it to my desktop. So if it gets deleted here is what I've done.

Video Thursday

Okay so here is the plan, every Thursday I plan to post a video. The videos are either going to be youtube videos I like or maybe some video I've made or I was thinking I can post a couple a videos from CIS this year. So for the first week I'm going to choose a video posted on the Huskiehoops website. The quality is not that great, but I chose this video for the ending. Let me know what you think.

Theme

Hey Sportsfans,

So I've been thinking about what it is I should focus this blog around. I've pretty much come up with the idea thatI will pretty much talk about everything. From pro sports, to little league, university life, Jay W's class and of course CIS basketball.

First thing I want to talk about is the Raptors, 7-3 in their last 10. But lose to the Pacers? I mean common Raps... They should however pick up a win tonight against the Nets.
